Overview

Dashmool is a traditional blend of the roots of ten different plants. These are divided into two groups: five roots from large trees (Brihat Panchamoola) and five roots from smaller shrubs (Laghu Panchamoola). Together, these ten roots create a powerful synergistic formula that is warming, grounding, and deeply nourishing to the tissues.

Japanese: ダシュムール (Dashumūru)

Dashmool is not a single herb, but one of the most important and widely used classical formulas in Ayurveda. The name means “ten roots.” It is the ultimate formula for pacifying the Vata dosha. It is used to ground the nervous system, relieve pain and inflammation in the joints and muscles, and support respiratory health. It is a nourishing and strengthening tonic, especially for post-partum recovery.

For a Vata-Pacifying Decoction: Boil 1-2 tsp of Dashmool powder in 2 cups of water until it reduces by half. Strain and drink warm. This is a classic remedy for body aches and nerve pain.
In Ayurvedic Therapies: The decoction is also used as the base for many therapeutic enemas (basti) and other detoxification therapies.
