OUR CERTIFICATIONS

Overview

Jatamansi is a small, flowering perennial herb that grows at high altitudes in the Himalayas. The medicinal power of the plant is concentrated in its rhizomes (underground stems), which are fragrant and covered in dark, hair-like fibers. For centuries, this precious Spikenard has been used in perfumes, incense, and as a profound medicine for neurological and psychological well-being.

Jatamansi is Ayurveda’s premier herb for calming the mind and grounding the nerves. Its name means “lock of hair,” referring to its hairy, tangled rhizomes. It is a powerful nervine tonic known to pacify all three doshas, especially Vata. It is used to promote deep sleep, alleviate anxiety and stress, and support memory. For hair, its nerve-calming properties extend to the scalp, promoting healthy growth and helping to prevent stress-related hair fall.

For a Tranquil Sleep Tonic: Mix a quarter to a half teaspoon of Jatamansi powder in a cup of warm water or milk with a touch of honey before bedtime.
For a Mind-Calming Hair Oil: Infuse Jatamansi powder into a base of SUPHERB® Sesame Oil. Use this oil for a slow, relaxing head massage (shiro abhyanga) to calm the mind and nourish the hair roots.
