Overview

The Guava tree is a small tropical tree cultivated for its delicious fruit. Its leaves, however, are packed with a higher concentration of beneficial compounds like quercetin, flavonoids, and polyphenols. These compounds give the leaves potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties that have been utilized in folk medicine for centuries.

French: Feuilles de goyavier
German: Guavenblätter
Chinese: Fān sh榴 yè (番石榴叶)
Arabic: ورق ا وا (Waraq al-jawafa)
Spanish: Hojas de guayaba
Russian: Листья гуавы (List’ya guavy)
Japanese: グアバの葉 (Guaba no ha)

While the fruit is famous, the leaves of the Guava tree are a hidden medicinal treasure. In traditional systems, Guava leaf tea is a powerful remedy for managing diarrhea due to its astringent and antimicrobial properties. It is also known to support healthy blood sugar levels. For hair, a decoction of the leaves is used as a rinse to combat hair loss and strengthen follicles, thanks to its high vitamin C and antioxidant content.

For a Digestive & Wellness Tea: Steep 1 tsp of Guava leaf powder in a cup of hot water for 5-10 minutes. Strain and drink to help manage diarrhea or support blood sugar balance.
For a Hair Strengthening Rinse: Boil 2 tbsp of the powder in 3 cups of water for 15 minutes. Let the decoction cool completely, strain it, and use it as a final rinse after washing your hair, making sure to massage it into the scalp.
