OUR CERTIFICATIONS

Overview

Guar Gum is derived from the endosperm of the guar bean, a legume that grows in the arid regions of India and Pakistan. India is the world’s largest producer of this incredibly versatile hydrocolloid. The gum is a polysaccharide called galactomannan, which gives it thickening power eight times that of cornstarch, making it an indispensable ingredient in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries.

French: Gomme de guar
German: Guarkernmehl
Chinese: Guā’er jiāo (瓜尔胶)
Arabic: ا وار (Samgh al-ghawar)
Spanish: Goma guar
Russian: Гуаровая камедь (Guarovaya kamed’)
Japanese: グアーガム (Guāgamu)

Guar Gum is primarily known for its functional properties as a thickener and stabilizer. In the context of wellness, it is a source of soluble fiber. It is traditionally used to promote satiety (a feeling of fullness), support healthy bowel movements, and help manage cholesterol and blood sugar levels by slowing down absorption. It is generally considered to pacify the Vata dosha due to its heavy and slimy nature.

For Culinary Thickening: Use sparingly to thicken sauces, dressings, and gluten-free baked goods. A little goes a very long way.
For Added Dietary Fiber: As a supplement, mix a very small amount (e.g., half a teaspoon) into a full glass of water or juice and drink immediately. Always consume with plenty of liquid.
