Overview

This small, erect annual herb grows wild in the rainy seasons. It gets its name from the tiny, fruit-like growths that appear beneath its leaves, resembling miniature Amla berries. The entire plant is packed with potent alkaloids and lignans, such as phyllanthin and hypophyllanthin, which are responsible for its powerful liver-protective and antiviral activities.

Bhumi Amla, meaning “Amla of the Earth,” is a small but powerful herb renowned in Ayurveda for its profound effect on liver and kidney health. It is a premier hepatoprotective (liver-protecting) herb. Its cooling and diuretic properties make it excellent for pacifying Pitta and Kapha. It is traditionally used to manage liver disorders like jaundice, support kidney function, and help clear kidney stones (hence the name “Stonebreaker”).

For Liver Support: Mix half to one teaspoon of Bhumi Amla powder with warm water and consume once or twice daily, or as directed by a practitioner.
As a Detoxifying Tea: A simple tea made by steeping the powder in hot water is a traditional way to support liver and kidney detoxification.
