OUR CERTIFICATIONS

Overview

This potent essential oil is steam-distilled from the leaves of the Wintergreen shrub. The oil is almost entirely composed of methyl salicylate, the same compound that is the precursor to aspirin. This makes it incredibly effective for pain relief but also means it must be used with extreme caution and respect.

French: Huile essentielle de gaulthérie
German: Wintergrünöl
Chinese: Dōngqīng jīngyóu (冬青精油)
Arabic: ز ت و ر ر ن (Zayt wintarighrin)
Spanish: Aceite esencial de gaulteria
Russian: Эфирное масло грушанки (Efirnoye maslo grushanki)
Japanese: ウィンターグリーンエッセンシャルオイル (Wintāgurīn essensharu oiru)

Wintergreen is a powerful analgesic oil, used almost exclusively for pain relief. Its primary active component is methyl salicylate, which has a cortisone-like effect that provides a warming, numbing sensation. It is a key ingredient in many commercial muscle rubs and liniments for soothing sore muscles, arthritis, and joint pain.

For a Deep Muscle Rub: Heavily dilute a few drops of Wintergreen oil in a large amount of carrier oil (a dilution of 2-3% is recommended). Massage this blend into sore, aching muscles and joints for a powerful warming and pain-relieving effect. Always do a patch test first.
